Missouri High School Football Playoff Predictions 11212018


I haven't paid much attention to the Missouri high school football play-offs as the high school basketball season is starting to ramp up, along with the fact that this new football blog has not had much of a following.

So, here are my semi-final and championship picks for each class (the champion is listed in Bold):


Class Six
CBC (135) over Rockhurst (119) by 16
CBC is the class of all football teams and should not have any problems with a great Rockhurst team.
Class Five
Vianney (110) over Carthage (103) by 7
Ft Osage (103) over Battle (104) by 1
Vianney over Fort Osage by 7
Battle has to travel to Fort Osage but neither team will give Vianney much of a hassle in the finale.
Class Four
Ladue (116) over Webb City (109)  by 4
MICDS (101) PkM Smithville (105)

Ladue over MICDS/Smithville by 10
Ladue has to play at Webb City, always a tough battle but the winner of that bracket will have no problem with the MICDS/Smithville winner.  Flip a coin on that bracket.
Class Three
Cardinal Ritter (93) over Mt. Vernon (77) by 16
Trinity Catholic (115) over Maryville (116) by 1
Trinity over Cardinal Ritter by 22
Trinity has the home advantage over a slightly higher rated Maryville team.  Either one will make mince-meat of Ritter in the finale.  The Trinity/Maryville game is the real championship.
Class Two
Lutheran North (121) over Blair Oaks (114) by 5
Lathrop (98) over Lamar (85) by 13
Lutheran North over Lathrop by 23
The title game should be Lutheran North and Blair Oaks but one of them will route Lathrop in the finale.
Class One
Hayti (109) over Westran (75) by 34
Mid-Buchanan (67) over Lincoln (64) by 7.

Hayti over Mid-Buchanan by 47
Hayti continues to dominate with wins over Westran in the semi and most probably Mid-Buchanan in the final.

The Class 5 Missouri State High School Football playoffs are a somewhat complicated play-in process with 5 or 6 teams in each district.  For districts with 5 teams, the bottom two teams play off this coming week and the top three get a week off.  For districts with 6 teams, the top two teams get a week off and the 3-6 seeds play. My ratings come up quite a bit different from the MSHSAA rankings and seedings.  The league has Fort Zumwalt rated the top class 5 team with Jackson, Fox and Staley following.  In fact, they rate Fox a few hundredths behind Jackson when I think Jackson is a 12 point favorite.  I have not rated FZN above a 105 rating all season.  Jackson should beat them by 16 if they meet in a quarterfinal game.  I actually would see Battle beating FZN before one of them has to play this powerhouse Jackson team. St. Louis area high school football rankings vs. Post Dispatch 10/5/2018

Just back from Ireland for a little Guinness, golf and sightseeing and trying to catch up on football game results.  Here's a look at how my statistical ratings match up with the Post-Dispatch large and small high school ratings.   With a few exceptions, top 10 in both ratings are solid with a few exceptions of over- or under-rating teams. In large schools, Kirkwood and Pattonville are in the top 10 large schools when De Smet and Francis Howell are more deserving of top 10 consideration. In small school polls, Cardinal Ritter, Columbia Illinois and Lutheran St. Charles are over-rated, in my estimation, by the P-D writers when Breese Central and Freeburg Illinois are both solid top 10 candidates. We will very well see how good Kirkwood is when they host Eureka tonight. In other games, De Smet is at Jefferson City , F rancis Howell plays a good Francis Howell North team, Pattonville travels to Marquette, Columbia plays at Breese Central and Lutheran St. Charles plays ...

Missouri High School football playoff predictions revisited

UPDATED 12/2/2019 Weekend results were close to form.... Class 6 - Congrats to DeSmet who came back to beat Joplin Class 5 - my fav Jackson rolls, FZN loses close one to Carthage.  Jackson will beat Carthage by 30 in final. Class 4 - Webb City rolls over Ladue, Platt Co. upsets St. Mary's.  Webb City wins umpteenth championship next weekend by 35. Class 3 - Odessa trounces Kennett, Cassville ekes by Trinity.  Odessa all the way next weekend by 40. Class 2 - Lutheran North downed Lathrup, Ava beat Clark County.  LN beats Ava by two touchdowns for another championship. Class 1 - Lincoln took down Marceline but cannot get past Valle Catholic, perennial champion who beat down Mid-Buchanan. Predictions last week - 9 out of 11 correct for 82%. Overall predictions for play-offs - 248 out of 308 for 80.5%.
